As part of TTC’s commitment to provide accessible transit, work is underway at the Dupont and Spadina intersection to install new elevators that will make Dupont Station accessible to all customers.

Dupont Station is scheduled to be accessible by the end of 2019 and traffic lanes in the area will be reduced for the duration of the project. This longer-term work will include the following station improvements:

  • Three elevators to access all levels of the station
  • Accessible fare gates
  • Barrier-free path to the subway platform
  • Improved signage
  • CCTV – Security cameras

Dupont Station Elevators (1 and 3) Construction Work

Approximate project completion date: end of 2019
Elevator 1 (E1) and Elevator 3 (E3) construction work is underway on the southeast side of the intersection within the City right of way. Traffic lanes will be reduced until the end of the project.

Upcoming excavation and related activities for future elevators

Scheduled start date for this stage of work: as early as May 17, 2018

Spadina/Dupont Intersection

Work is required to excavate the future elevator shafts on the south-east corner of the Spadina and Dupont intersection. During this stage of work, the contractor will be conducting work such as jack hammering, saw cutting, caisson wall installation and excavation (this was the same work that was undertaken on the north-west corner of this intersection).

Area residents may hear construction noise including, reverse safety beeps from trucks, delivery and removal of disposal bins, as well as delivery of construction material.

Throughout the project, every effort to keep noise to a minimum will be made, however this type of work does cause unavoidable construction noise.

Work Hours

The majority of work will take place between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Some overnight and weekend work will be required during the course of this project in order to complete the work as quickly as possible.


Nearby businesses and residents can expect noise from construction equipment.

Traffic and Pedestrian Details

  • A minimum of one lane in each direction will be maintained.
  • Through-traffic and TTC bus service in all directions will be maintained.
  • Pedestrian access will be maintained - safe detours and signage will be in place.
  • Access to the subway entrance at the southeast corner of Dupont and Spadina will be maintained, with detours as required.
  • Parking within construction zone will be reduced.
  • For safety reasons, bicycle parking will be removed.

Transit Service

26 Dupont and 127 Davenport bus service will be maintained through the intersection during the work. Bus stops will be relocated to a nearby location, as required.
