Relief Line South Study - Preliminary Field Testing at multiple locations
Ongoing testing along approved Relief Line South alignment
The City of Toronto and the TTC are planning a new subway line that will connect Line 1 Yonge-University (downtown) to Line 2 Bloor-Danforth, east of the Don River. This line will relieve crowding on Line 1, at Bloor-Yonge Station, and on the surface transit routes coming in and out of downtown.
Field testing in support of planning and design work
As part of the investigative phase for planning and design of the Relief Line South, further tests will be conducted within the study area to gather essential data. The work will involve obtaining ground samples, which requires some drilling and coring, in the vicinity of the Relief Line South alignment.
Scheduled Test Locations
*Timelines below may change.
- MacPhail Avenue, west of Pape Avenue - starting May 1 for 3 to 4 weeks
Work generally takes place during the daytime between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. This includes time to set up and remove the work area in addition to drilling/sampling.
As part of this field testing, the work area is required on a daily basis after 7 a.m. for set up. If a legally parked vehicle is occupying the work area after 7 a.m., we will make arrangements for a friendly tow. The friendly tow will relocate a vehicle a few metres (as best as possible) from its original location at no cost to the owner.
When a vehicle is relocated, the license plate and address where it is relocated are entered on the police computer system. In the event that your vehicle has been relocated as part of this work and you cannot locate it, please call 416-808-6600 (Toronto Parking Enforcement) and provide the license plate. The operator can advise where the vehicle can be found.
It should also be noted that we will make an effort to mark work areas with construction barrels after each work day. We understand that overnight on-street parking is of great importance in many areas of the city. We appreciate your efforts to move your vehicle from the work areas around 7 a.m. daily.
