Spadina Station - roof rehabilitation
Work is ongoing until the end of 2020
Construction update - early morning work activities on Friday, September 18 from 4 a.m. to 6 a.m.
In order to ensure the safety of customers and prevent interruption to TTC service, some activities are required to take place outside of typical working hours. This Friday, September 18, materials deliveries from TTC’s roof supplier will be conducted between 4 a.m. and 6 a.m.
What to expect
Starting as early as 4 a.m. on Friday, a small crew will set up a mobile crane in the bus bay of Spadina Station to lift the materials onto the roof. Materials will be delivered to the area by truck.
This work must be conducted before the start of TTC service. Please note that crews cannot safely perform this work from the street due to the number of overhead wires in the area.
What we are doing and why
The TTC is conducting roof repairs at the main and west entrance buildings of Spadina Station on Line 2. During this project, the station will remain open and service will be maintained.
What to expect
Starting the week of June 1, work crews will create a safe work zone and start installing guard rails along the perimeter of the roof. This work must take place during overnight hours for the safety of customers. Once safe work and pedestrian zones are established, work activities will include the removal and installation of new roof flashings along the roof wall, removal of the old roof material and application of new roof material.
Materials deliveries from TTC’s roof supplier will be conducted between 5 a.m. and 7 a.m. multiple times during the course of the project. Some supplies will be stored on the roof.
The traditional method of liquid asphalt application (asphalt kettle) is not being used. The roofing system used is a 3-ply membrane applied with heat and produces less odour.
Dust and debris disposal
Dust will be controlled as much as possible. A fenced off area will be erected around material storage and disposal bins.
Work will typically take place during regular daytime hours of 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., and may extend to 8 p.m. if needed. Safety sensitive activities and delivery of materials/supplies will occur outside of these hours.
Transit service at the station will be maintained.
